Square Review: Is this the easiest way for customers to pay?

Lets cut to the chase. I use www.SquareUp.com for my businesses, processing £1000s per month simply and securely with no fuss.

In the meantime, before you read the rest of my Square review, you can get free processing on up to £1,000 in sales during your first 180 days! That’ll save you a few quid!

Square Review

Now, it’s time to get to the Square review. The review below is an honest, real-life small business view of using Square on a daily basis. If you want to cut to the chase, then read my TL;DR section right at the bottom.

The Signing Up Bit

Ok, so this bit couldn’t be simpler. You just have to enter some basic information about your business, verify your information, and link up your business bank account.

Secure, Easy Payments

There are a few different ways to use Square. Through my businesses, we use solely card payments over the phone using Squares Virtual Terminal.

You can also take card payments directly using an iPhone or Andriod app, use a POS system, or use a bit of additional hardware, such as the Square Reader.

All their payment systems are secure with encryption, monitoring, layered security, secure networks, PCI-DSS, and much more. You can read more about Square security here.

How much is Square?

There is no monthly standing fee, phew! Which is great, unlike some other providers.

Square is not the cheapest, mind. Its fees are competitive but you can save a few quid checking out its competitors. But, the price is not always the most important factor, it’s one thing to definitely consider, but the ease of use, the quick setup, and the simplicity make it a great payment processor to choose regardless of the price.

Square Payments

Below is the current Square pricing. So, 1.75% fee for contactless, swiped, and chip and pin card payments. It’s 2.5% fee for typed in card payments, so taking payments over the phone, etc (this is what we usually use as it’s super simple to do on Square’s virtual terminal).

For that fee, you get to accept major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Fast deposits into your own bank account. Up to £250 per month chargeback protection. A free point of sale (POS) app. Plus some free easy to use analytics and sales reporting tools.

Square Hardware

There is currently just 1 piece of Square hardware you can purchase if needed. It’s the Square Reader for £39+VAT. There are some nice accessories to go alongside the Square Reader too.

The Square Reader alongside an iPad with the Square POS app on it’s a very strong setup for collecting payments instore, in a temporary setup, or out and about.

Square Software

There are some nice bits of add-on software to compliment your sales and payment processing. Including, adding additional users (with their own logins and permissions), invoicing functionality, managing sales locations, e-commerce tools, and an app marketplace. To be honest, I did not know about the app marketplace much until I started researching this review. So, that’s a real cool feature that’s undersold by Square. Worth a look!

The Square Dashboard

Ok, so below is a screenshot of one of my lesser used Square Dashboards. It’s super simple. The main dashboard page can be customised with different widgets. I just have 3 widgets: Deposits, Gross Sales, and Payment Methods.

The Square Virtual Terminal

This is the area that we use most of Square. The Square Virtual Terminal is where we enter all our customer’s card details over the phone – all done securely and safely with no hassle or fuss.

That’s all from this Square Review

Ok, to wrap this up, I will just remind you of the great Square offer I have which will save you a few quid as you can get free processing on up to £1,000 in sales during your first 180 days! That’ll save you a few quid!

Oh, and for those a little too lazy to read, check out my Too Long; Didn’t Read the section below for this Square Review (don’t worry…I always skip to end too!).

TL;DR Square Review

Ok, in a nutshell. Here’s my experience of using Square.

1. It’s simple to sign up and set up.
2. It’s secure and easy to use.
3. It’s not the cheapest, but the price tag is worth the convenience.
4. It has the Ronseal effect, so it’s idiot proof.
5. You can take card payments in person and on the phone.
6. Save ££’s signing up here.
